How is your life impacted by what you do or do not know about the lineage from which you descend? I’ve been asking myself this question for the last few years. Some of the answers I sought out have been revealed to me through pictures. I create and reconfigure existing images to map out my world. As a father and as an artist, I believe I have the tools to inform my daughter about our family in ways that will resonate with her for the rest of her life.
The artworks on display at Provident1898 are foundational pieces of an intimate storytelling project. This pursuit is inspired by becoming a parent and deep reengagement with my own ancestry. I invite others to join me on this journey and discover how our paths were destined to cross well before we were conceived.
